The VIC-20 holds a special place in my heart, it was my first computer. I got it, and the tape deck at the same time. As soon as I got home I proceeded to type one of the games from the back of the manual into the computer. Unfortunatly I was unable to save it, I hadn't plugged the tape drive in!

Later I added a 8k cartridge which was expanded to 16k, and was switchable between the two sizes. I also had a really cool expansion board which plugged into the cartridge slot, and held 5 cartridges which you could then switch between. Instead of powering down, and removing the cart, you simply turned a rotary switch, and pressed the reset button.

This served as my computer up through 1986. In 1987 I got a Kaypro 2000. Sadly I gave the Vic away in 1990, but finally in November of '97 I was able to replace it. I even have a VIC-1541 drive now, which I had always wanted, but was forced to use the tape drive. I'm not sure of the condition of the VIC-1541 though as it is rather beat up, and I've not had time to test it.
